Fed rate cut expectations heat up, dollar collapses after falling

On Monday (September 8), the US dollar index (DXY) fell slightly around 97.67. The index fell by more than 0.5% in the previous trading day. The rebound stems from the fact that U.S. labor market data were lower than expected, and the market's expectations for the Fed's interest rate cuts were rising, and traders were weighing this.
Soft employment data boosted Fed rate cut expectations
Data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed that the number of non-farm jobs in the United States increased by only 22,000 in August, far below the expected value of 75,000 and significantly lower than the revised 79,000 in July. Meanwhile, unemployment has climbed to 4.3%, and wage growth has slowed.
According to data from CME's FedWatchTool, traders currently believe that the probability of the Fed's 25 basis points cut in September has reached 92%, and some traders even bet that the rate cut may expand to 50 basis points.
Feder officials send out a signal of caution
Chicago Federal Reserve Bank President Austan Goolsbee pointed out that weaker job markets usually provide reasonable reasons for easing, but he expressed doubts about the timing of interest rate cuts and mentioned that inflation is still at high levels.
His remarks highlight that the Fed is facing a "balance problem": it is necessary to stabilize the labor market and control the pressure on rising prices.
Geopolitical risks continue to attract attention
In terms of geopolitical affairs, US President Trump confirmed that leaders of many European countries will meet with him in Washington this week to discuss RussiaIssues related to Ukrainian conflict.
Previously, Russia launched a large-scale air strike, which exacerbated regional tensions and added another layer of uncertainty to the global market.
Technical Analysis
At present, the US dollar index (DXY) is trading around 97.67, and after a sharp decline from a high of 98.43, it is in the consolidation stage. Judging from the price trend, the index is currently below the 50-term index moving average (50-EMA, 97.89) and 200-term index moving average (200-EMA, 98.04), and the short-term momentum is still under pressure.
Fibonacci levels show that the real-time resistance range of the US dollar index is 97.88-98.02, while the support levels are at 97.43 and 97.25. If the downward trend line is broken, it may indicate that the index will rebound to 98.00; but if this moving average dense area cannot be broken, the US dollar index may face further downward risks.
The current reading of the Relative Strength Index (RSI) is 41, indicating that bearish momentum is weakening, but there is no reversal yet. Traders need to pay attention to the confirmation signal: if the index can hold above 97.43, it may stabilize; if it falls below 97.25, it may further fall to 97.08.
