On Tuesday (September 9), crude oil futures prices rose slightly, with an intraday increase of nearly 1%.
Can you break through the 20-day moving average at $63.75?
Traders are closely following the 20-day moving average at $63.75, which remains a significant resistance range. If the price can continue to break through this level, the technical trend will be more bullish, and it is expected to move towards the 50-day moving average of US$64.61. If the volatility high of $66.03 is broken, a broader uptrend will be confirmed.
In the downward trend, the instant support level was at $61.45, and the main support level was at $61.12. If prices fall below this level, crude oil could face the risk of retesting the May low of $56.09 – a position that is the key defense for the bulls.
OPEC+ production increase is lower than expected-Is supply tighter?
OPEC+ announced that it will increase production by only 137,000 barrels per day since October, far lower than the monthly increase of 550,000 barrels in August and September. The news provided support for crude oil prices, and traders were skeptical about whether this moderate increase could be fully implemented. Analysts at UBS and SaxoBank both pointed out that OPEC+'s remaining capacity is limited, which means there is very little buffer space to deal with sudden supply shocks.
China's crude oil reserves provide additional support
China is still the "invisible stabilizer" of the crude oil market. Analysts estimate that China is currently purchasing crude oil for reserves at about 500,000 barrels per day, digesting most of the global surplusYield. The chief strategist of Gunvor believes that this trend will continue until 2026, indicating that there is continued potential buying support in the physical market.
Sanctions against Russia may exacerbate global supply tensions
Geopolitical risks have also injected bullish sentiment into the market. There have been reports that Russia launched its largest air strike to date on Ukraine, and speculation about additional sanctions on Russia have heated up. U.S. officials have said they are ready to introduce a new round of restrictions, which may directly affect Russia's crude oil exports and further exacerbate global supply pressures.
Feder rate cut expects to boost demand
Bulnerable factors also include the rising market expectations that the Fed will cut interest rates at its next meeting. Lower interest rates may stimulate economic activity and thus support crude oil demand.
Oil price forecast: supply concerns dominate, bullish outlook remains unchanged
From a technical point of view, crude oil prices still fluctuate below the 20-day moving average, but the overall market tone is biased towards bullish. Traders appear ready to test resistance levels given the tightening supply of OPEC+, China's excessive digestion of crude oil, and rising geopolitical risks. If the price can stand firm above $63.75, it is expected to attract subsequent buying, with the target pointing to the mid-range of $60. Before this, the support level at $61.12 was still a key indicator for judging short-term trends.
