EUR/GBP maintained a strong trend in early European trading, mainly driven by the weakness of the pound. British Finance Minister Rachel Reeves made it clear that the autumn budget will not increase wealth taxes, but will still repair the fiscal gap through other taxes and spending cuts.
This attitude strengthened the market's concerns about the UK's future economic pressure and fiscal discipline, thus weakening the performance of the pound.
The Bank of England issued a dovish but cautious policy tone. Governor Bailey said that the future path of interest rate cuts will remain "gradual and cautious", while chief economist Huw Pill emphasized the need to guard against the risk of sticky inflation and avoid radical easing.
